The quality of support that people with disabilities and mental health challenges receive depends entirely on the quality of the people providing it. That's why OHI has invested deeply in professional development—not just for our own staff, but for the entire care workforce across central and eastern Maine.

OHI's Professional Development division is recognized as one of the premier training facilities in central Maine, offering courses appropriate for all industries with a primary focus on state-mandated education for professionals in the direct support field. Whether you are a new hire seeking certification, a seasoned professional pursuing recertification, a family caregiver seeking practical skills, or an organization looking to train your entire team, OHI has a course for you.

All OHI employees receive their professional development training through our department at no cost. All courses are also open to external participants from other agencies, organizations, and the broader community.

Who Should Attend?

While many of the OHI University courses are designed for:

• Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) and Rehabilitation Technicians
• Residential care and assisted living staff
• Mental health support workers
• Family caregivers and guardians
• Case managers and care coordinators
• Any organization providing services to adults with disabilities or mental illness in Maine

Policies

OHI provides a refund, less a $50 service charge ($15 for CPR/First Aid and 8-hour CRMA), if cancellation is received at least 72 hours in advance. Cancellations made with less than 72 hours’ notice will receive a future class credit. Participants may substitute another person in their place or transfer to a different session if space is available. OHI reserves the right to cancel sessions due to insufficient enrollment or inclement weather—registered participants will be notified by their agency contact.
